SETI Success Story | H.E.L.P. Homes of Regina
Darien was accepted into H.E.L.P. Home’s BRIDGE program in 2022. A year later, he transitioned to the H.E.L.P. Homes Supported Living Program (SLP). Darien is shy around new people, an active gamer, and intermittently introverted.
Since moving to SLP, Darien has excelled in many areas but also struggled with confidence in seeking employment as he has had negative experiences in the past. After encouragement over the past few months, Darien enrolled in the supported employment program in August. His preferred job is to become a security guard and he is considering some training for this.
Since joining the supported employment program, Darien has a renewed outlook and an enhanced sense of pride. We are confident that his goals will be realized through his recent motivation and accomplishments. It’s such a wonderful experience to witness!
Darien sat down with Shelley, the Supported Employment Professional and answered the following questions:
How do you feel about the Supported Employment program?
I feel it is going good. I feel better about getting a job and doing good at it.
What type of work do you see yourself doing in the future?
I would like to work at a brewery, as a security guard, or a chef.
How has your Supported Employment Professional helped you?
She has assisted me with the program assessments, attending an employer presentation at Sherwood Co-op, with a career cruise at the Pile of Bones Brewery and arranged an upcoming appointment with a virtual reality job training agency.
What type of training and support have you received?
My Supported Employment Professional has provided me with the opportunity to enrol in a Security Guard course and she has offered to assist me in taking it. I am still thinking about this.
