Basic Skills Tutor Training was held at the SARC Office Training Centre on November 8-9, 2012.

We had a great group of nine Tutors from all over the province who are now certified to teach the BST program to Learners at their respective SARC Member Agencies!

Congratulations, everyone! A special congratulations to Creative Options Regina on having their first ever BST Tutor Trained!   Tutors attended a very interactive two-day Train-the-Trainer workshop that covered the content of the training program, as well as gave information on learning styles, how to teach adult learners, and lesson plans (to name a few) to assist them for when they go back to their agencies to teach BST to their staff. Since BST came to Saskatchewan in 2000, approximately 160 SARC Member Agency staff have been trained as Tutors. Currently over 75% of the entire SARC Membership participates in this program. BST provides the information that all Direct Support Professionals need to have a clear understanding of the values, attitudes, and skills that promote choices, independence, and quality of life for people with disabilities that they work with. Once Learners have completed the training, they receive four course credits in the Disability Support Worker Certificate program through SIAST.
