Member Agencies
The Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres has 3 categories of Members, namely Regular Members, Associate Members, and Affiliate Members.
Member Programs:
While SARC's Member Agencies and their programs may vary, they all have one thing in common. They provide an environment that offers opportunities for persons with disabilities in our province.
Developmental Activities
Persons with greater needs often require support beyond the home environment. Some Member Agencies provide such services. Developmental activities focus on pre-vocational skills, social skills, and life skills. Quality of life, independence, and confidence are enhanced.
Life Skills
Exercising, sports and games, interacting with others, crafts, cooking and cleaning, learning to handle money, self-esteem, relationships – life skills programs give persons with disabilities increased opportunities to participate more fully with others in the community.
Work Skills/Training
Most Member Agencies have in-house Work Experience programs, where persons with disabilities learn to work with others more effectively and, at the same time, become prepared for employment by developing specific skills. Many Members also provide services and manufacture a wide range of products as diverse as the communities they serve – from children's toys to lawn furniture.
Residential
Several SARC Member Agencies operate one or more Group Homes. These are staffed homes that provide support, supervision, and some training for four to six residents with disabilities.
Independent Living
Many Member Agencies run a Supported Living Program (SLP). Through regular visits, a SLP worker offers the support, training, and supervision that people require to live in their own residences.
Supported Employment
Many persons with disabilities work in their communities, some with the assistance of SARC Member Agencies. Supported employment is an approach to assisting individuals with disabilities to prepare for, obtain, and maintain integrated, community-based, paid employment. A variety of supports are tailored to individual requirements.
Recycling
Much is being done to create valuable employment and effective recycling in Saskatchewan. Recycling initiatives by Member Agencies involve paper, cardboard, and beverage containers. Value-added products made from recycled materials are also being marketed.
